A practical course of stitching/Rag rugging which will be supported with discussions on the historical and social context of each skill. The techniques you will experience: Rag Rugging: two techniques and you will make a sari silk corsage. A domestic/home textile craft. Goldwork embroidery: used on royal robes, ecclesiastical robes Stumpwork Embroidery: basket of oranges. Linking with horticultural activities with orangeries and the plant hunters. Surface embroidery: Wedgewoods and Jasper Ware. Embroidering on blue silk with a number of white threads. Silk ribbon Embroidery: create a number of flowers that the Plant Hunters brought into this country 17th-18th Century. All samples for the time allowed will be small and beginners are welcome.
